Well everyone, the rebuilding has begun. Our new site is finally up and running, our weekly meetings are enjoying the presence of several new members and our portfolio is growing with several new investments! I've also been reaching out via Facebook and e-mail to several different high school and college investment clubs to see if we can find a way to collaborate on investment ideas/research and network with other motivated young people interested in finance and investing.
Our portfolio continues to grow in size and in number of investments. This is both a blessing and it complicates things. Currently our student-managed real-money investment portfolio holds 43 different securities, cash and funds in our Kiva.org account. In my opinion, it is too difficult for us to effectively monitor 43 different investments and I'd like to see us reduce the number of different holdings in our "long-term" portfolio and in our "unrestricted" portfolio. I think we should 1) Look at ETF's (Exchange Traded Funds) in sectors that we are heavily invested in and try to consolidate our investments using a sector ETF. 2) Sell off non-core holdings and add to core positions.
I look forward to ending this year strong while continuing to grow our portfolio and ranks. Please use Facebook and Twitter or any other social platform to spread the word about the great things we are doing in the Charity Student Investment Project.
